CURTAINS

Getting your curtain measurements right

01

Choose your fixing first

Ceiling-mounted or wall-mounted track or pole — this decides where you measure from.

02

Measure the track, not the window

Extend 15–20cm beyond the frame on each side so curtains stack back off the glass.

03

Pick your drop

Sill length, floor-skimming, or a puddle — measured from the track down to the finish point.

04

Match track to fabric

Heavier fabrics suit a stronger track; fullness varies by heading, from about 2× to 2.5× the track width.

ROMAN BLINDS

Getting your Roman blind measurements right

01

Recess or face-fix

Recess sits inside the window reveal; face-fix mounts outside the frame and covers the full window.

02

Recess: measure three times

Take width and drop at both ends and the middle, and always use the smallest figure.

03

Face-fix: add overlap

Add at least 5–8cm to each side and the top so the blind fully blocks the light when closed.

04

Decide the details

Chain or motorised control, front or back pockets, and whether you need a blackout lining.
